Utrecht is flat, watery, and full of reflected light, which is a gift if you draw glass and a nuisance if you want drama. I do gesture drawings to stay quick, then photoreal studies when I want to see whether I actually understood the reflection. Sports pictures happen when I am tired of the studio and need a crowd. Rain shelters, canals, windows: I return to them because they keep changing and I do not. I work in a shared building. My corner is the one with paper taped to the wall and a camera that should have been cleaned yesterday. The pictures are careful. The room is not.
