About Sanne de Vries

Amsterdam taught me to look at surfaces. Chrome, water, a hearth, a field just outside the city when I can get the train. Photoreal drawing is slow and I like that. It stops me from inventing a highlight I did not see. Decorative pieces, the pours and small vessels, are the days I want an object instead of an image. Nature photographs are the days I need to leave the desk. I keep the three practices because they correct each other. A drawing that is only technique feels dead. An object that is only charming feels thin. I am aiming for neither.
