About Sophie Laurent

I paint and draw in Paris, but I am not interested in the Paris people expect. I like side streets, shop grids, and the way a young model gets tired and becomes a better subject. Surreal pictures happen when a real place will not stay literal. Figure drawings happen when I need to remember what a person actually weighs in space. I work from looking, not from a mood board. My studio is small, the stairs are steep, and I know every crack in the floor. I would rather make a strange picture that started in a real room than a pretty one that started on a screen.
