Quick Study Desk is a small Bangkok calm made of paper, graphite, and leftover street noise. I keep the mood nimble. Pages look recently shut, as if the city were still going on outside the frame. Cafes, platforms, sheds, and stalls arrive half caught. Speed gets no apology in this room. It is a courtesy to a scene that will not hold still.
Finished paintings answer a different hunger, so these sketches took the short minutes instead. The city offers a little time, not a sitting, and I accept that. Cafe Page and Station Platform keep faith with the limit. I am after witness without ceremony. Riverbank Notes and Market Stall carry the same urge outside, where light shifts and goods get rearranged. A desk here is a ledge, and the work should admit it.
Sketching, drawing at the speed of notice, leaves me with an alert affection. Garden Shed did not need grandeur to deserve a page. Bridge Pocket Sketch is the feeling stripped bare, a structure taken before the walk continues. Wobble stays where the hand hurried. I am fond of unfinished truth. Polish would replace the hour with a souvenir, and a souvenir is not what I came for.
Some people will wish the sheets were more complete. I hope they notice what was chosen while the minute lasted: an awning, a posture, a joint, a pile of goods. Read that as attention rather than neglect. An urban reading or a purely graphic one both fit. Either way, I want this city's motion still audible after the room itself goes quiet.
